If you need to clean up some quick messes, tidy up after the pets or perform some spot cleaning, you’ll be interested in this powerful Bissell 1985 Hand Vacuum that is completely cordless and features some neat attachments. It is priced slightly higher than other models due to the added features and is also quite lightweight. Having a cordless vacuum is a must when looking to clean the stairs to ensure that there will be no more tugging on a cord to continue your cleaning. The model comes in a nice neutral gray color with green accents. It also includes a 2-year warranty.

Motorized Brush Roll

One of the key features of this unit is the motorized brush roll. Many hand vacuums use brush rolls that are powered by suction which doesn’t provide an adequate clean. This vacuum uses a self-reliant motor that is right in the attachment itself.

This motorized brush roll is so powerful that it can also easily lift and remove pet hair from your carpet and upholstery. You might consider using it on the pet’s bed or your bed to remove their pesky hair.

This specific model doesn’t specify that it is a pet vacuum, but it should. I found that it was extremely effective on cleaning up everything related to the pets including cat litter and bird food. Keep in mind, if you are cleaning up longer pet hair, you might have to occasionally clean the brush roll out to keep it working properly.

Other Tools Included

One of my favorite parts of this Bissell Cordless Hand Vacuum was all the other attachments that could be used. Take for example the built-in extension hose and attachable extension wand. This is great for maximizing your cleaning reach and getting up into those tough to clean areas like on the curtains. When you notice those cobwebs in the corner of the ceiling, no worries! With this machine, it is a breeze to reach them.

The other reason you want a tool such as this is to get deep under the couch and beds. There is no need to move every piece of furniture anymore when you apply the extension tools.

It can be a little tough removing the extension wand and sometimes it feels a little wobbly, but the added reach makes those issues worthwhile. Also, the extension hose is stored right on board, so it is always available when you need it for anything that needs to be cleaned.

Another tool to point out is the handy crevice tool. This is perfect for reaching into those corners or down in the couch where it can be difficult to clean up dirt.

It can also do amazing things in the seats of the car or down in those cup holders.

I love thinking outside the box and found that this can also be used on boats and in the motorhome as well.

I am a big fan of the dusting brush which isn’t available with most other handhelds. This features soft bristles that gently sweep the dust and debris making it much easier to clean up.

Next time there is a mess of flour after baking or dirt on the walls, this is your secret weapon.

When you are done using these tools, you’ll have to find a safe place for keeping them as Bissell didn’t provide onboard storage for all the attachments with this model. The Crevice tool fits neatly in the back of the unit, but I find that having a dedicated basket works well to keep everything else together in one place. Consider storing your charger there as well so you’ll always know where to find it.

Cleaning & Battery Power

The professional-grade, 22V lithium ion battery supplies up to 15 minutes of suctioning power that will not fade or diminish over time. The battery is also easily removed, like batteries on power tools, to provide for some flexible charging options.

That in itself makes this a top-notch cordless vacuum as many lower quality choices aren’t supplying this option. You could always purchase a spare battery and keep one fully charged at all times. It is also quite handy that the vacuum shows it charging level at all times. Now there is no reason to ever run out of power in the middle of a cleaning job.

When the unit is completely dead, it can take up to 5 hours to fully recharge, which can seem a little long when you are in need it quickly. However, if you are looking for just a burst of cleaning, you can charge for 1 hour and get the job done.

Keep in mind that this powerful battery will hold your charge even when the unit is not in use. That’s one of the benefits to purchasing a vacuum with a 22V lithium ion battery. If you want to send it to someone outside the country, you’d be happy to know that the charger’s operating voltage is between 100 and 240v meaning that it will also work overseas.

Some may find the fact that this cordless vacuum comes with no docking station an issue, but I like the fact that it can be plugged in anywhere you can lay it horizontally. This enables me to essentially charge it in any room. If you prefer storing the vacuum, you can just remove that battery and plug it in while placing your vacuum in a nearby closet or cabinet. This method of charging takes up less room in the house.

Lightweight

Weighing in at less than 4 pounds, this is very comparable to other hand vacuums, but comes with more attachments and cleaning features than most other options. The ergonomic design is so easy to use and even features comfort soft grips so your hands don’t hurt during cleaning. In addition, you’ll find that the controls are situated just above the handle so you can operate it with a single hand.

It would be perfect to use in between full cleanings to grab the mess that the kids make or even on the stairs and in the car without dragging the bigger vacuum around. This Bissell cordless vacuum is also a great option for someone with mobility issues. The lightweight aspect makes it essentially perfect for anyone to clean up, even the kids or your elderly parents.

Removable Dirt Bin

It’s true; this model comes with an easy empty lid to make cleaning the removable dirt bin faster than ever before. In addition, it is completely transparent so you can see what is accumulating and it can hold up to 0.4 liters. This unit will need to be emptied after each use which is pretty typical for a handheld vacuum.

I’ve noticed, however, that the dirt can get packed down in the bottom of the cup making it not as hands-free to empty as the company advertised. I am not sure many bins will be hands-free though because they’ll all need cleaning at some point. Eventually, you’ll have to remove the attached foam filter and clean it with warm water and soap. Make sure you set this out to dry completely before placing back in the unit and remember never to use it without the filter as you could damage the motor.

In addition, you’ll notice that the dirt comes into the unit and then faces a U-bend into the dust cup. This could potentially cause some problems down the road with clogs in the sharp bend as it doesn’t seem like an easy path for dirt to travel.

LED Lights

There are two LED lights on the unit that are a huge benefit in low-light conditions. They turn on when there is dirt or items on the floor in an effort to alert you. This even makes cleaning inside the closets, where it can be hard to see, a breeze. I also like that I can vacuum out the car while in the garage where there isn’t much daylight. You know what else they are good for; finding items that shouldn’t be vacuumed up like marbles, socks and more, preventing you from doing damage to the unit.

Getting Rid of the Upright or Canister Vacuum

While I do believe this to be the Cadillac of handheld vacuums, I am not convinced you should rid yourself of the upright or canister vacuum quite yet, especially if you have pets at home. I don’t believe the tools included have a wide enough cleaning path to use this model as your only vacuum. While it is fantastic for cleaning up the quick messes or getting into those tough to reach spots, I don’t advise using this for your daily cleaning of the house.

Verdict

You’ll find few cordless, handheld vacuums with as many features and attachments as this Bissell model. If you don’t mind the added time to takes to charge the battery, this makes for a great overall cleaning tool for your home and car.
