Design
This vacuum weighs roughly about 8.4 pounds, is 3.6 inches high and 14 inches in diameter. It has black shiny finish all round plus shock-absorbing bumpers on the edges to prevent any damage in case it bumps into something. On top, there are four buttons; the dock, clock, spot and schedule which the captions light up in blue color when the power is on. There is also the clean button at the center which is also the power button and lights up green when the robot is powered on.
Just above the power button, there is a battery indicator light which shows the battery status; lighting up green when the battery is full and red when the battery is low and needs to be recharged. Again, just above the battery indicator light there is a clock display which shows the time when the clock is set.
Still, on the upper side, there is a handle on top for easy handling of the vacuum when you need to carry or move it from one place to another.
Operation
The vacuum uses a combination of three-stage cleaning which is sweeping, agitation and vacuuming to effectively clean floors. With dual rotating brushes, the vacuum scrubs the floor loosening all the stuck-on dirt before vacuuming the dirt into the dustbin. The single side brush is used for cleaning edges and difficult spots in a room.
The vacuum cleans both hard floors and carpets with no problems and in fact, has no problems transitioning from hard floors to carpets and vice versa. Nonetheless, loose electrical cables and cords may get the vacuum stuck on them and it is better to pick them up before setting the vacuum to work. While the vacuum is quite efficient in its operation, it is quite noisy and may hinder you from doing any other activities in the house that require silence.
Main Features
Three Cleaning Modes
The robot has three different cleaning modes; the clean, spot and scheduled modes. This allows for easy management and efficient use of the robot. When you press the clean button, the robots docks out of the charging dock and starts cleaning the room. Scheduled cleaning, on the other hand, allows for the robot to start cleaning at specific times of the day without your intervention. This robot can be scheduled to cleaning up to seven times a week. Lastly, spot cleaning is used for cleaning a particularly dirty spot on the floor. Once you set the vacuum on the floor and press the spot cleaning button, it will go back and forth cleaning the dirt-laden area until no more dirt can be found.
AeroVac Series 2 Bin
This robotic vacuum features a new version of dust bin known as the AeroVac series 2 Bin. The vacuuming motor is located inside it and thus is able to powerful pull all kinds of debris, hairs and dirt from the brushes and on the floor into the dustbin.
This way get dirty and tangled with hair less often. However, in case the robot’s brushes get tangled with hair, then, the vacuum still comes with a set of brush cleaning tools which should be used to clean the brushes.
The bin is 0.26-litre in capacity, which, is medium in size and quite efficient. The dustbin holds more dirt, dust and hairs before it gets full. There is also a dustbin light indicator which lights up when the dustbin is full. This is a great addition to the vacuum as you no longer have to guess when to empty the dustbin. However, if you have pets at home, then, you would probably have to empty the dustbin on every cleaning cycle since the vacuum picks up quite a lot of pet hair which would fill the dustbin quite often.
Dual HEPA filters
The dual HEPA filters used on this robot are suitable for cleaning pet hairs and allergens. These filters, located in the dustbin, help the robot clean up very fine dust and dirt particles without letting them escape into the air again. This way, the air in the room stays dust free and clean. When you buy the robot you will also get an extra set of filters in the package which you would use to replace the ones in the robot once they get dirty and clogged.
Long Battery life
A full battery charge lasts for about 2-hours of continuous cleaning. This is pretty long as compared to its peers and definitely much longer than other cheaper models of the vacuum.
The robotic vacuum comes with a charging dock for automatic charging. Once the battery is low, the robot will automatically locate and go to the charging dock for automatic recharging. It will take about three hours for the battery to be fully charged once again.
Also, when the robot has finished cleaning a specified floor area, it will go back to the charging dock where it will automatically recharge the battery ready for the next round of cleaning.
iAdapt technology
With this technology, the robot can scan the room up to sixty times in a one second. This quick and thorough scanning of the room helps the robot navigate easily as well as detecting dirt on the floor that should be picked up. This way, the vacuum also has no problem going under furniture and seats. The vacuum easily navigates around furniture and hence it quite efficiently cleans under the beds, sofas and any tight spots in the room. Furthermore, with this technology, finding the charging dock; placed in an open location would not be a problem at all.
Dirt Detect 2 Series System
The dirt detect 2 series system is a combination of infrared and acoustic sensors placed around and underneath the vacuum. These sensors thoroughly scan the floor mapping out all the regions where there is dirt to be cleaned. The vacuum then sets in cleaning the floor in a zigzag motion and when it gets to a spot with a high concentration of dirt, it will move back and forth until the spot is thoroughly cleaned.
Virtual walls
The vacuum is shipped together with two auto-virtual walls. These can be set up to cordon off a particular section of the room that you may not want the robot to reach. However, the virtual walls use C batteries which are not included in the package and hence you should remember to buy them before setting the virtual walls to work.
Remote control
In the package, there is also a remote control which is quite handy in guiding and controlling the vacuum from a distance.
DVD manual
The DVD instructional manual in the package in also very helpful especially when setting up the vacuum for the first time. However, it is quite inefficient when you need to check a quick thing on the manual and a printed manual would have been better in this case instead of having to play the DVD just to look for one simple fix or detail.
Conclusion
This is a powerful and efficient robotic vacuum cleaner. Equipped with advanced technological features such as iAdapt and dirt detect 2 series system, the vacuum has no navigational problems and can easily locate its charging dock as well as pick up all dirt and debris on the floor. Its battery life is also commendable and overall it is worth every cent!
