Cleaning up after the pets can be one of the hardest household chores, so it makes sense to invest in a quality pet vacuum to make your cleaning tasks a little easier. The Bissell 1650A Pet Hair Eraser Vacuum offers specialized pet tools, a tangle-free brush roll, and other features that will help get the job done fast.
Tangle-Free Brush Roll
One of the highlights of this pet vacuum is the tangle-free brush roll. Unlike ordinary vacuums that require you to get out your scissors to rid your system of the hair-wrap that inevitably happens, this machine will not tangle on even the longest of pet hair. It features a brush and bristle design that will keep all the hair separate and allow it to flow through the machine with ease.
If there is an object that could clog your brush roll system the brush roll safety feature will be activated. This brush roll safety feature is located around the height adjustment knob and will turn red to notify you if the height of the vacuum is too low or there is an object that could get stuck in the vacuum.
Cleaning Power
The SuctionChannel Technology provides edge-to-edge cleaning of both hard surfaces and carpets. Many vacuums use suction on just one side of the brush roll, but this Bissell pet vacuum allows suction throughout the entire brush roll to provide a 12-inch cleaning path capable of maximizing the pickup of all pet hair and debris. You’ll receive the same suctioning power in the middle of the brush roll as you experience on the ends.
You’ll find that the pet vacuum does a better job on the carpets than the hard floors, which is great for grabbing that embedded pet hair. If you want to use it on the hard surfaces, one of the perks I noticed was that you can turn off the brush roll so it doesn’t scratch your floors. In addition, there is a height adjustment knob to raise or lower the level of your vacuum head. It includes five height adjustments so it is ideal for hardwood floor or carpets of any thickness.
The suctioning power of this unit is surprising considering it is only an 8.5 amp motor. It works perfectly on smaller and medium sized items such as cat litter, bird seed, and rice. If you need to pick up heavier items like small pebbles or large pieces of dog food, you might find that it is capable of doing a fair job.

This machine has a tool for every job. The Pet TurboEraser Tool is designed to remove stubborn, embedded pet hair from your carpets, stairs, and upholstery with ease.
The 2-in-1 Pet Brush contains rubber fingers on one side that remove the pet hair from your furniture. Flip the tool over to use the other side which is a soft dusting brush for the most delicate surfaces. This easily connects to your handle or on the end of the wand for a longer reach.
The LED-lit crevice tool is ideal for finding that hidden dirt lurking in the dark and tight places of your home. Easily use it in between your car and couch seats to grab that tough to clean hair. It is also perfect for sweeping out the dresser and kitchen drawers. Use it in conjunction with the Pet TurboEraser tool to remove that embedded hair from your carpets and upholstery. Keep in mind that the LED light is powered by two small batteries CR1632 3V (included). This means you’ll have an added expense in the future, but for the added functionality, I believe it to be well worth the cost.
Each of the tools is easy to change when you use the quick release wand. Just push the button on the vacuum body and each tool is easily disconnected. If you see pet hair, you can quickly grab the tool you need and get cleaning. Use the attachment hose to allow for a further reach during your cleaning. The hose is not rigid, so it won’t be as easy to reach far away, but perfect for grabbing that extra distance you need to get under furniture or in corners.
Each of the tools can be stored directly on the machine for easy access.

Allergen System & Odor Eliminator
Two of the unique features included with this pet vacuum are the Smart Seal Allergen System and the Febreze Pet Odor Eliminator. If you or family members suffer from allergies or asthma, the allergen system is going to be your best friend. This high-end system sucks up the dirt, dander and pet fur leaving you without that fine mist of debris many vacuums leave behind. I found it to be effective at trapping allergens inside the vacuum so they are not in the air you breathe.
The pet odor eliminator provided by Febreze is a filter included for you and eliminates the odors while you are vacuuming. To maintain the freshness this provides, you will periodically need to purchase new filters which can be a little more expensive than your typical vacuum filter. Keep in mind that the vacuum also includes a regular filter if you prefer not to use the Febreze version.
Bagless System
If you aren’t interested in having to reach inside the canister and touch the dirt after cleaning, this bagless pet vacuum is going make your day. Unlike many vacuums where you have to reach in the cup to fully remove the dirt, the Bissell pet vacuum features a patented Cyclonic Pet Hair Spooling System that provides the user with a hands-free emptying of the tank. It effectively manages all the hair by sucking pet and human hair up and spooling it in the canister separate from the dirt and debris the vacuum picks up.
The bin has a line to show you when you need to empty the contents. When the time comes to dump the canister, simply press the “Tank release button” to detach the bin and then hit the button at the bottom of it to open for that hands-free emptying.
This doesn’t just make emptying the canister easier but also reduces additional messes that often happen when transferring dirt to the trash can. If you need to clean the separator, it can be rinsed with warm water, just be sure to air dry completely before returning it to the vacuum. The dust cup contains a 1.5L capacity, so you won’t even need to empty it after each cleaning.
Weight & Handling
I was impressed to see the unique swivel steering that this model offers. It is able to easily maneuver around the furniture and can turn on a dime. This swivel feature works just as well on the hardwood as it does on the carpets. The vacuum does not provide an option to lock the steering in place. One of the features I would have liked to see on the vacuum itself would have been a light in the front of the unit. It would have made it much easier to see under the couch, beds and other furniture while cleaning.
With a 30-foot power cord, it can go anywhere you need to clean. You’ll have to wind up the cord though as it doesn’t feature a retractable option.
At 30-feet, the winding can take a little bit of time, but well worth the fact that I don’t have to unplug several times during cleaning.
The vacuum itself is easy to assemble and doesn’t require special tools. If you have limited upper body strength or mobility issues, you might find that the 18-pound weight could become an issue. It isn’t self-propelled so it does require the strength of your arms and wrists. Many vacuums are powered more by the muscles of your back or legs, but this model’s weight is mainly at the top of the unit, so upper body strength is a must. Because of the additional weight, this won’t be an easy vacuum to carry up and down the steps, but if you need to clean the steps, the longer power cord should be just what you need.

While focusing on all the amazing features it can become easy to miss some of the other important facts about this unit. First, it features a 5-year limited warranty. That is much longer of a time period over most other vacuums. The price tag is also comparable to other vacuums, but this Pet Eraser features tools and other unique qualities that make it better than the other options. It is also relatively quiet considering the magnitude of cleaning power. The Bissell comes in the same green color that matches the Bissell Pet Hair Cordless Vacuum. This is ideal if you want a matching set for your home.
Verdict
If you are looking for a quality pet vacuum, I would highly recommend this Bissell Pet Eraser model. It is an investment, but well worth the attachments that come with the unit, the added Febreze filter, allergen system and swivel capabilities. If you don’t mind the added weight, you’ll enjoy the suctioning power and hands-free canister that this Bissell pet vacuum offers.
